Huddersfield was formed following a meeting held in Huddersfield's George Hotel on in 1891. The course was laid out on the magnificent parkland turf of Fixby Park with the assistance of the owners, the Clarke Thornhill family. The first captain was Harry Huth, and the first president, The Earl of Dartmouth.
From the long doglegged 475-yard par four opener, Huddersfield is a true test of golf. Mastery of every club in the bag is necessary in order to sign a scorecard to be proud of. The front nine are relatively flat but the inward half is undulating and at its highest on the 18th fairway. Those with invention and sound course management will prevail over those with brute strength.
