Over the years Bingley St Ives has developed from a nine-hole layout to a top-class 18-hole championship test which ranks among the best in Yorkshire. Dr Alistair Mackenzie, one of the acknowledged greats of golf course design, was among those involved in the early layout.
Bingley St. Ives golf course is unusual in that it is a single loop, taking the golfers from parkland to woodlands to moorland and back again with stunning views along the Aire Valley to Leeds, Bradford and beyond in the south and east, the magnificent Bronte moorlands to the west and the imposing Rombalds Moor to the north. In the 1980s the course was the venue for the Lawrence Batley International on the European Tour. Winners at Bingley were Sandy Lyle (twice) and Nick Faldo.
