Holtye Golf Club began its existence as the Liliput Golf Club in April 1893. The club is indebted to Admiral Maxwell who lived locally and whose son, Charlie, was a founder member. He kept a daily journal which, fascinatingly, recorded in great detail the beginnings of the club and course.
The first hole at Holtye is, supposedly, an easy opening hole requiring a good straight drive and a short pitch - with out of bounds all the way on the left, it's not always as easy as it looks.
And that's the kind of challenge to expect. The tenth hole may look driveable, but, as the locals say, the extra effort results in more bogeys than birdies!
