Home of James Heath, the amateur golf who recently stormed to the prestigious Lytham Trophy, breaking all sorts of records in the process, Coombe Wood is a delightful track with great views of the North Downs and many interesting and memorable holes, most notably:
The par three 8th, where the green is set a top the Coombe Bank, a natural plateau, with only the top of the flag visable from the tee.
13th, straight but long par 4, stroke index one hole. Views over surburbia to rural Surrey beyond, narrow tree lined fairway which features Henry VIII's Tamkin house, a 16th Century structure built to inspect the supply of spring water from the Coombe Estate to Hampton Court Palace.
16th, a delightful short par 4 that tempts the long driver to reach and the high handicapper to record a birdie. Only the most accurate, however, will achieve.
