This wonderful course, set upon the gentle undulations of a north-facing escarpment a mile south-east of Kingston Hill, was laid out in 1911 by the famous architect J.F. Abercromby.
Coombe Hill, therefore, is one of the famous generation of exceptional courses built within a decade which includes Sunningdale, Walton Heath, Worplesdon and St George's Hill.
Horace Hutchinson, a former British Amateur champion, once said: "Among the best of the new courses near London - it would not be too much to say the very best - is Coombe Hill.
"It is of nice, light soil, in beautiful country of silver birches, firs, rhododendrons and all kinds of floral beauty".
