Set in the heart of Lancashire, Dean Wood Golf Club was formed back in 1922 and remains as popular today as ever. It is located between the rural villages of Upholland and Orrell on the outskirts of Wigan and it is, truly, one of the hidden gems of golf in Lancashire.
Although not particularly long – it measures just over 6,000 yards – the parkland course is full of character and charm and is certainly not to be taken lightly. The short par-4 17th is, without doubt, the signature hole. Curiously, former Ryder Cup player Harry Weetman once pulled his tee shot wide and out of bounds there, before sticking his second effort to within a yard of the pin for an incredible par!
