When Donald Steel and Sir Michael Bonallack played the very first round of golf at Beacon Park Golf & Country Club in the summer of 1982 a little piece of history was added to the annals of "Historic Upholland". Since designing this wonderful course, set in the Lacashire countryside, Donald Steel has gone on to establish a reputation as one of the foremost links and traditional style golf course architects in the world. His emphasis on top quality, based on technical and academic knowledge, and attention to detail, combined with his philosophy of minimising earth movement and the blending of a course layout into its natural surroundings are Steels hallmarks and this Lancashire course really is a Beacon to his style of work. Every hole has been thoughtfully sculpted to take maximum advantage of the natural terrain. Beacon Park holds a myriad of secrets, the answers to which can only be discovered by familiarisation with the course. If you have a passion for the game of golf you should indulge that passion with a visit, or a revisit, if it is a while since you last played the course, to Beacon Park.
