Ian Poulter splits with Cobra-Puma Golf

Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter will soon be taking to the golf course with a new set of clubs after announcing that he has split with his long-time equipment sponsor Cobra-Puma Golf.

Poulter, 38, made the announcement via Twitter last night, but declined to say which brand’s gear he would be using going forward.

Poulter, a veteran of five European Ryder Cup teams, has been with Cobra-Puma Golf since 2006. He inked a deal with the company, at that time still owned by Acushnet, having ended his previously deal with TaylorMade.

A desire to wear apparel from his IJP Design clothing line was believed to have been part of the reason behind that particular split and so, presumably, the Englishman will look for a similar condition to be written into the deal with whichever brand he moves to.

If so, that would appear to tilt the balance in favour of a company like Cleveland/Srixon, Ping or Mizuno.

Callaway might be an option, if for no other reason than it has reported a successful year and Poulter already uses one of the brand’s Odyssey putters. Just as equally, though, he was seen using Titleist Vokey wedges during the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
