The course at Stoneham is considered to be one of the best in Hampshire and is unusual in having 5 Par 5ís and 5 Par 3ís and no two holes alike. Undulating through a beautiful parkland and heathland setting with views over the ltchen valley towards Winchester it is a course that rewards brain over brawn. The quality of the course means that we never use temporary greens and rarely close.
It was built in the old deer park of North Stoneham house the course was designed by Willie Park Junior. He revelled in the opportunity offered by the rolling land and the stream that meandered through it and the course measuring 6,033yds, offering a satisfying challenge to golfers striking Haskell balls with hickory-shafted clubs.
Changes were made to the course in 1912 on the advice of J.H. Taylor and as a result the course was extended to 6,244yds, with a SSS of 74. Since then other changes have taken place; tees have been lengthened and in once case shortened, bunkers repositioned and a stream has been created around the left side of the relocated 17^th green. The greens are generally the same as when they were built.
