DANNY WILLETT’S bid to win a maiden major at the 2016 Masters has been dealt a blow - but the Englishman isn’t particularly bothered!
The Sheffield golfer’s wife, Nicole, is expecting the couple’s first child, which is due to arrive on the Saturday of Masters week. And even though that might mean he’s not able to make the trip to Augusta, the 28-year-old told English Club Golfer’s sister title bunkered it’s a sacrifice he is more than willing to make.
“I’d rather be a good dad than a good golfer,” said Willett. “It’s a different chapter in my life. It puts everything else in perspective, doesn’t it? It makes mishits seem not as important as they maybe used to be.”
This fantastic news in Willett’s personal life comes at the end of his best season as a pro.
“It’s been a very good year,” he added. “It’s been very consistent. Everything’s been bang on and it’s nice to see my hard work paying off.”
