The captain of Wanstead Golf Club in north-east London has handed over two cheques to national charities from his time at the helm.
Martin Roffe, who was captain and veterans captain in 2017, handed over cheques of £10,000 each to Cancer Research UK and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Throughout the year, the club held three well-supported dinner dances together with various auctions and raffles, as well as sponsorship from local businesses.
There were also two major supporting events – the Dave Hollick Captain’s Charity Day and Roffe’s own Captain’s Day – both of which raised a terrific amount of money towards the final total.
“I was honoured to be both club captain and veterans captain in 2017 – a first in the 124-year history of Wanstead Golf Club,” said Roffe. “Without the support and enthusiasm of my wife Kerry and my captain’s committee, this would have not been possible.
“I’d also like to thank the members of Wanstead Golf Club for their support throughout the year, which helped make it a winner.”
