Lucy Eaton and Max Berrisford have succeeded in progressing through very different paths.
Eaton, 23, was the inspiration in her American university’s ladies team that pulled off a wonderful victory in the NCAA finals in Florida, the top competition on the US collegiate golf circuit.
Meanwhile, Berrisford made history himself by qualifying for the Brabazon Trophy, one of the most prestigious 72-hole strokeplay events in Europe.
The victory came after Eaton and her fellow team members were shocked to learn that the women’s golf programme at the university was to be scrapped after the spring season.
“We all just had our mouths open in shock. No one could say anything. We were just all heartbroken,” she said. Later that day, Eaton messaged her teammates to say: “New target acquired. Let’s go win nationals.”
