BRICKENDON GRANGE head steward Alan Corbett announced during a club quiz night that, if Europe won the Ryder Cup, he would play golf in the ladies’ medal dressed like a woman.
He made his bold claim on the Saturday night of the match at Medinah and, with Europe trailing 10-6 and their opponents the USA requiring only four-and-a-half points from the 12 on offer in the final day’s singles ties to win the match, it no doubt seemed like a good bet.
However, Alan - like the rest of those watching the drama unfold the world over - was in for a shock as Europe hit back to claim a stunning victory against all the odds… and leave Alan red-faced.
But, true to his word, he donned a pink wig and a rather fetching skirt to play in a medal from the ladies’ tees at the club
and, though his first shot flew onto the road, he soon settled down to shot a nett 78 and finish runner-up!
