Prior 'beyond excited' to begin her Las Vegas golfing adventure

Burhill junior looking forward to starting her full golf scholarship
Lizzie Prior is heading to the Nevada desert after taking up a full golf scholarship at the renowned NCAA Division 1 College, UNLV.

Prior, who has been a member at Burhill Golf Club in Surrey since 2005, recently played in the men’s EuroPro Tour event at the club and is a product of the club’s successful Junior Development Programme.

She has already won three times this year, with victories at the Sunningdale Critchley Salver, Roehampton Golf Cup and Fairhaven Trophy, with her impressive play also earning her a place in the England team at the recent German Girls Championship where she finished in a tie for 16th, as well as the European Girls Team Championship, which took place at the beginning of July in the Czech Republic.

“I’m beyond excited about the prospect of starting at UNLV, said Prior. “It’s been a dream of mine for a while now to go down the collegiate route in the U.S. and I look forward to making the most of the great facilities that playing college golf will offer me.

“Being given the opportunity to play on the EuroPro Tour recently was a fantastic experience, and to play at my home club with all my friends and family supporting me was amazing.”

The Surrey-based teen currently holds a handicap of plus-three and faced her toughest test to date at the Ladies British Amateur Championship at Portstewart in Northern Ireland at the beginning of June.

Competing against arguably one of the strongest fields in women’s amateur golf, she made the cut in the strokeplay portion of the event, only to lose out in the second round of matchplay.

Mike Connell, acting general manager at Burhill, says everyone at the club is delighted with what she has achieved so far.
He said: “We are extremely proud of Lizzie. She is a great ambassador for junior golf here at Burhill and it speaks volumes about the commitment that the entire membership here has shown towards junior golf as a whole.”

The Junior Development Programme takes place within the club’s Golf Academy and operates weekend classes and school holiday camps.
