Oceanico Golf , owner of eight leading golf courses in the Algarve, is celebrating after half of its venues were nominated for ‘Portugal’s Best Golf Course’ at the 2016 World Golf Awards.
Portugal Masters host venue Oceânico Victoria and established classic Oceânico Old Course are the two tracks in Vilamoura to receive a nomination. Meanwhile, both courses at the nearby Amendoeira Golf Resort - Oceânico O’Connor Jnr and Oceânico Faldo - join them on the same nominee roll.
Amendoeira Golf Resort has also been nominated in the ‘Portugal’s Best Golf Hotel’ category.
European Tour winner Ricardo Santos, who is based at Oceânico Golf, said he was very familiar with the Oceânico roster of courses and said one of their best assets is the fact that every one offers fantastic variety.
“I have played all of the Oceânico courses and I just love the variety they offer,” said Santos. “They’re very close together and all world-class, yet they’re all completely different tests.
“For example, Oceânico Old Course is a great place to work on different shot shapes and ball flights around the pine trees, while Oceânico Victoria is a more open course with water hazards that test your nerve. Oceânico Faldo features blind shots and big elevation changes, while Oceânico O’Connor has a completely different character, even though it’s on the same property.”
Guests attending the final announcement of the World Golf Awards winners will have the chance to try out Oceânico’s nominees, as this year’s ceremony will be held on the Algarve, which, incidentally, is celebrating 50 years of golf this year.
If you have played any of the Oceânico courses, you can vote for them at worldgolfawards.com until July 17. The winners will be unveiled in November.
