Golf, community and nature is at the forefront of a £6.4m redevelopment
An Oxfordshire golf club is in the midst of a £6.4m redevelopment that it hopes will propel it forward to become one of the most popular clubs for visiting groups and societies in the region.
Work at Feldon Valley is expected to be fully complete by October, with a state-of-the-art new clubhouse – featuring a reconfigured interior and enhanced external terraces overlooking the course – scheduled to open in July.
The clubhouse is just a part of the multi-million pound development, though, with the club’s new owner and operators – led by 360 Partners – keen to improve its future viability built on a mantra of golf, community and nature.
The introduction of new overnight accommodation, comprising an L-shaped two-storey main lodge and four single-storey woodland lodges within the adjacent copse, is expected to encourage more golf societies, with up to 60 guests able to stay in the idyllic rural setting – part of the Cotswolds’ Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
A new ‘Ecology Island’ will include a wild flower meadow, small fruit orchard and space for growing beds for the clubhouse kitchen to grow their own produce. It is also set to include a turf nursery, where greenkeepers can grow their own fine turf for use when patching or replacing greens turf.
Bees will also be a feature, with the addition of working hives providing that they ‘take’ to the area in question, while an owl box will take pride of place on the island. A bridge will link the island to the golf course and will present a beautiful walk through to the driving range.
“Since 2014, Feldon Valley has been transformed into one of the most improved courses in the country,” said Director of Golf, Tom Jones.
“We’re very excited about the opening of our new clubhouse this summer which, with its wonderful views across the course, will provide no better place to enjoy a post-round meal and refreshments. The new Lodge accommodation, meanwhile, opens this autumn and will give visitors the opportunity to enjoy a longer stay with us.
“Put simply, if you like to play golf in a tranquil setting, on a fantastic course, with stunning views, and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, then Feldon Valley is the place for you.”
Originally called Brailes Golf Club, Feldon Valley was established in 1991 and successfully opened in 1992. For more information on the golf club or to enquire about a possible stay in the new accommodation, visit feldonvalley.co.uk, call 01608 685633 or email Tom at firstname.lastname@example.org.
