‘Pitch & Putt’ layout for Perton Park
A LEADING Midlands golf centre has transformed a former unused area of ground to provide a new facility for complete novices, up-and-coming players and those wishing to improve their short game.
Perton Park Golf Club of Wolverhampton has invested over £10,000 to convert barren areas to each side of its main driveway to form a new Par-3 pitch and putt course, measuring almost 600 yards.
The tree-lined avenue is now surrounded by clearly defined fairways providing nine different holes ranging in length from 45 yards to 112 yards.
possibility
The club’s head professional, Jeremy Harrold, said: “We had noticed a high level of interest from many players who didn’t want the challenge of our main course and were looking for another option, so we decided to create this new facility.
“This new pitch and putt area now provides the possibility of ‘golf in an hour’ on a nice flat course course, enabling players of all ages and abilities to simply turn up and play. Each hole is clearly marked and includes a light-hearted word of advice on the number board at each tee.
relaxed
“To help encourage youngsters to take up the game, we can provide basic lessons and even the dress code has been relaxed slightly, allowing people to play in trainers rather than investing in expensive golf shoes before they know whether they will actually take to the game.
“As a club, we want to encourage people of all ages to play, so we also have sets of loan clubs available and the professional staff are on hand to offer informal advice and support. That’s why we are welcoming anybody to come along and have a go as booking isn’t necessary”
