Merion Golf Club has been announced as the venue for the 42nd Curtis Cup, which will be contested between Great Britain and Ireland and the United States from June 10-12, 2022.
The Pennsylvania club will stage the match for the second time in its history after it first staged the international contest in 1954. It is one of only two clubs, alongside The Minikahda Club, in the United States to have hosted both the Walker Cup and Curtis Cup matches.
“The USGA is thrilled to return to Merion Golf Club for this biennial celebration of women’s amateur golf,” said Stuart Francis, chairman of the USGA championship committee.
“An exemplary championship host, Merion has always provided the comprehensive examination and hospitality expected of USGA championships, and we are confident the club will deliver a memorable experience for all during the 2022 Curtis Cup.”
The 2018 Curtis Cup will take place from 8-10 June at Quaker Ridge Golf Club and, two years later, will be contested at Conwy Golf Club in Caernarvonshire, Wales, 12-14 June 2020.
Great Britain & Ireland won the most recent edition of the match, seeing off the USA 11.5-8.5 at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in Ireland. That made it back-to-back wins on home soil for the GB&I side, following the team’s victory at Nairn in 2012.
The United States, however, leads the all-time Curtis Cup series with a record of 28 wins to GB&I’s eight. Three matches have been halved.
