Hertfordshire club’s assistant professionals earn top marks for their university studies
THE GROVE has underlined its credentials as a resort with the highest levels of teaching after completing a noteworthy ‘one-two’ at the annual PGA Titleist Assistant of the Year Awards.
John Glenn, the club’s assistant professional walked away with the Year Three PGA East Region Titleist Assistant of the Year accolade, narrowly pipping colleague James Sibbles into second place. Both were also recognised as amongst the country’s elite assistants, finishing an impressive fourth and fifth in the nation, respectively.
The awards recognise the exceptional exam results of trainees over the past year as they work towards their foundation degree in Professional Golf Studies accredited by the University of Birmingham.
This is not the first time that the two had received such high praise. In Year One of the course, Glenn, 29, won the same award, as well as fourth place in the Rookie of the Year, with Sibbles, 31, picking up the Year One PGA Assistant of the Year for the North Region, further underlining the incredible teaching standards that are on offer at The Grove.
The PGA course covers all areas of working within golf, from business management and marketing to teaching techniques, sport science and golf rules.
The awards examined all aspects of this training with the outstanding coursework and examination results of both John and James key in them receiving such high honours, with only 1% separating their scores.
The joint successes of the two PGA Assistants further cement The Grove as one of Europe’s premier golfing destinations. As well as first-rate coaches, the resort is also the UK home of the renowned Dave Pelz Scoring Schools.
Commenting on behalf of The Grove, director of golf Anna Darnell said: “We are extremely proud of both John and James and we are all very happy to see their hard work rewarded. To have the top two PGA Assistants in the region working at our facility is fantastic and both thoroughly deserve such high accolades. I have no doubt that their commitment to The Grove, along with the high service standards they set, will see them achieve great things within the industry.
“This recognition also continues to place us amongst the premier golf resorts in the country. With the fantastic professional teaching services on offer, only a part of the exceptional service that we strive to deliver for everyone who comes to experience The Grove.”
