The lady members of a Gloucestershire golf club hit top form to win England Golf’s national competition in support of its charity for girls’ golf.
Westonbirt GC’s ladies’ section was named as the winner of the 2014 EWGA Trust Stableford Competition at the annual meeting of England Golf, seeing off over 160 other clubs.
Ladies’ sections were invited to fundraise for the EWGA Trust at a Stableford competition. They were asked to make a donation based on the points scored by the top ten players in their competition and, nationwide, over £2,600 was raised
In Westonbirt’s nominated competition, the top ten players amassed a combined 383 points, finishing two clear of Bracken Ghyll in Yorkshire.
Ladies’ captain Mary Griffiths said: “We are delighted to win this. We’re a small club but very friendly.”
The Westonbirt ladies are long-standing supporters of the trust and their junior section includes some girl members who are coming through coaching schemes run by Kirsty Taylor, a former Ladies European Tour pro.
