COTTESMORE Golf and Country Club is celebrating being one of only five clubs in the south-east to have been nominated for the GolfMark ‘Club of the Year’ award, a prize which recognizes the facilities that have shown an outstanding innovation and contribution to junior and beginners’ golf.
Cottesmore has a long-standing tradition of working with juniors, from its own junior academy to kids’ events during school holidays, which takes very young children and gets them interested in playing golf based games with plastic clubs and balls.
Club members also play their part in encouraging juniors and recently a Texas Scramble proved a great success in this respect. Sixteen juniors joined in to make a team of four comprising of two juniors, a veteran and lady golfer. The event was won by Cottesmore’s President, Paddy Dowzer, playing with the organiser, Heather Skinner, and junior girls Heather Bailey and Jess Pearce.
Afterwards, Heather Skinner said:
“It was great to see their enthusiasm and dedication and everyone mixing together in the clubhouse afterwards. We will definitely be planning other events with and for the juniors.”
