GEAR SHORTS Has Tiger Woods found his new irons?

Wyndham Championship - Round Three

GEAR SHORTS

It has been precisely 19 days since Nike announced it was stopping its production of golf clubs, golf balls and golf bags.

Speculation has been rife ever since regarding which clubs the brand’s big earners Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will use from the start of next season. According to reports, Tiger Woods’ next move might happen sooner rather than later.

Shortly after Nike made its announcement, Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg said the pair ‘had an organised plan in place’ for finding new clubs for the 14-time major champion.

It now appears Woods could officially start using Miura golf clubs when he makes his return from injury. Alan Shipnuck, senior writer for Sports Illustrated, revealed the info on Twitter (@AlanShipnuck).

Shipnuck’s tweet was followed a day later by one along similar lines from the Secret Tour Pro (@secrettourpro).

Woods used a full bag of Titleist clubs between 1997 and 2002 before making the switch to Nike clubs. While nothing has been confirmed as yet, this is a story you need to keep an eye on.

Jaeger and the nearly 50-year-old Anser

Stephen Jaeger produced the round of his life to shoot 58 at the Ellie Mae Classic earlier this month. The score is not the only impressive thing about his round, though. He did it with a nearly 50-year-old Ping Anser ‘Dalehead’ putter.

According to Ping, the ‘Dalehead’ putters came from the original moulds the Scottsdale address putters derived from.

To celebrate the launch of its new Vault putters, Ping tweeted a picture of one of the coolest places on earth. Its Gold Putter Vault is found in the heart of its Arizona HQ and features over 2,800 putters.

The oldest one belongs to John Barnum, who won the 1962 Cajun Classic with a model 69. The Ping Anser can be found most often in the vault. It has more than 500 wins to its credit.
