FootJoy’s FreeStyle ‘inspired by frogs’

FootJoy FreeStyle

• FreeStyle completes FJ’s performance line-up
• Red-Eyed Tree Frog influenced the design
• Created to give more grip and power during the swing

First we had D.N.A. Then we saw HyperFlex. Now, FootJoy has released the final part of its performance shoe line and it has been inspired by the Red-Eyed Tree Frog.

Named ‘FreeStyle’, the FJ’s R&D engineers have taken attributes from the Red-Eyed Tree Frog as well as feedback from the brand’s tour staffers to create what it is calling the ‘grippiest’ shoe it has ever produced.

How exactly has a frog had such a big impact on a shoe? It’s all based around the traction on offer. The FreeStyle has been designed specifically for those who struggle with stability through the swing. The extra traction keeps your feet in place, while also helping to transfer your weight more efficiently, giving you more power.

This technology is called FJ’s Revolutionary Outsole Grip System or F.R.O.G.S technology for short. Isn’t that a nice coincidence?

With its performance shoes, FootJoy has taken a step away from the ‘traditional’ styles we were used to seeing from the No.1 shoe in golf. Don’t get us wrong, you can still buy the classic styles, but FJ has taken significant steps towards catering for the more modern golfer.

Where D.N.A. was sleek, stylish and comfortable, HyperFlex was built with stability at the fore. The FreeStyle, on the other hand, has been built for power.

They will be available in a choice five different colour combos when they hit shelves in March. As well as the Navy/Orange/Lime, pictured, you will also be able to get them in White/Grey/Charcoal, Black/White/Grey, Grey/Green/Navy or Grey/Navy/Berry for the BOA option.

‘FJ’s most imaginative and distinctive shoe ever’

Richard Fryer, FJ’s sales and marketing director, said: “FreeStyle is arguably FootJoy’s most imaginative and distinctive shoe ever and will particularly help golfers who would benefit from increased freedom of movement when swinging the golf club. Research has proven that dynamic traction can be beneficial to players regardless of age, ability or speed of swing.

“FreeStyle becomes the third part of what will be known as the ‘FootJoy Performance Trifecta’, joining the iconic D.N.A. and HyperFlex models that have been a huge success over the past two years. Our R&D team has thought even further outside the box and, by drawing inspiration from a Tree Frog, they have created a shoe unlike anything else on the market.”

FootJoy FreeStyle – how much will they cost?

The new designs will come with a set RRP of £135 for the standard laced model or £150 for the BOA version.
