• Lunar Control 4 is an evolution of its predecessor
• McIlroy will wear them for the first time in Dubai this week
• ‘They give me the confidence needed to maximise power’ – Rory
Rory McIlroy was involved throughout the research and development process, and Nike asked him what it got right in the Lunar Control 3 model, and what he felt could be improved. Using slow motion video, pressure management, and Rory’s feedback, Nike was able to meet his desires for a shoe that had ‘close and responsive fit’.
Set to debut the Lunar Control 4 shoes this week at the DP World Tour Championship, McIlroy says he has been looking forward to wearing the shoe for quite some time.
“It’s a design I’ve been involved with ever since my first year with Nike,” said the four-time major winner. “They give me the confidence needed to maximise power in my swing with reliable control on the ground, especially off the tee.”
Amongst the innovations in the Lunar Control 4 is the Dynamic Nike Flywire technology that gives support in the midfoot, while a new, robust external heel counter helps to lock your foot in place.
The upper has been made from lightweight microfiber to give soft feel, while the tongue has been redesigned to wrap ergonomically around the ankle. The athletic design is highlighted a Swoosh logo design on the vamp, an iconic aesthetic that has also been used in the Nike Mercurial football boot.
The same high-performance outsole and Nike Lunarlon midsole from the Lunar Control 3 design continue to give more traction and cushioning.
Available in three colourways for men (black/white, white/wolf grey, white/bright crimson) and for women (black/white, white/wolf grey, pure platinum/bright crimson), the Nike Lunar Control 3 will officially be available to UK customers from 5pm on November 17 at nike.com with an RRP of £130.
