Designed by famed golf course architect James Braid, one of the foremost landscape designers ever known to the United Kingdom, Cockermouth is a scenic nine-hole fell-land course, set against a picturesque background of the beautiful Cumbria countryside. It can be played as an 18-hole, and in such an instance measures 5496 yards - short in comparison to many of the other local courses - and has a par of 72. With over 600 members, the course is exceptionally popular and a quick glance at some of its holes makes it easy to see why. Most greens are fast and sloping, and the bunkers are strategically placed for maximum effect. The frequent strong winds also add an extra dimension to playing here.
