Set out in 150 acres of splendid wooded parkland previously owned by Lord Desborough, less than half a mile from the town centre, Maidenhead Golf Club was founded in 1896.
The course architect was Alex Simpson, a Scot from Forfar, whose design was enhanced in 1908 when the legendary JH Taylor, five times winner of the Open Championship, was commissioned to introduce improvements. These included constructing 17 new bunkers and lengthening the course by 700 yards.
Looking out from the new clubhouse constructed in 1995, which, in addition to first-class changing rooms provides excellent bar, restaurant and conference facilities, visitors have a superb view of the 18th hole, which is a truly challenging finish.
