The original course at Ganton was laid down in 1891 by Tom Chisholm of St Andrews it seems, since then, every golf architect known to man has had a hand of redesigned at some stage; James Braid, Harry Vardon, JH Taylor, Dr Alister MacKenzie, Harry Colt and Frank Pennick to name but a few.
The host to the Walker Cup in 2003, where Great Britain & Ireland defeated the Americans for the third consecutive win in the matches, it is a wonderful test of wit and nerve and among the finest courses in England. Gary Player once said that Ganton was the only inland course in the United Kingdom worthy of holding the Open Championship. High praise indeed.
