James Braid, one of the very first Open champions, created some of the best golf courses in Europe. He didn't like travelling so much of his work was undertaken in the United Kingdom. Although he is famed for the likes of Gleneagles, in Perthshire, Braid was a prolific course architect and Kingswood is one of his unsung heroes.

This is a very long course, having been extended not too long ago to nearly 7,000 yards. It suits big hitters, then, but the shorter golfers out there will not be overawed - Kingswood, as with any Braid design, is playable by everyone.

The greens are immaculate and during the height of summer can be lightening fast.
