Championship length courses are amongst the most popular with starry-eyed golfers - and that's all of us by the way - who want to test their skills on the sort of courses that the pros take on. Few in Somerset come close to rivalling that at Mendip Golf Club, a truly fabulous long design that has plenty of challenges waiting to judge exactly how good a player you are.

Water comes into play on several holes with plenty of lakes dotted around the course. Perhaps, though, the signature hole of the course would have to be the twelfth, which has an island green that you'll need to judge just right or you could find your ball landing in a watery grave - taking your scorecard's respectability with it.
