Originally the course now known as Telford Golf and Country Club was built at a cost of £150,000 in the mid 1970's as Telford New Towns first pay-and-play golf course.
It became a private club in 1980 when Country Club Hotels bought it. It has since seen many owners and is currently owned by Malaysian United Industries and run by Regal Hotels. Back in 1976 the course was described as an American-styled course with large white-sanded bunkers with greens that had such speed that they resembled putting on glass. The quality of the suspended water table greens, which were build with the same soil system as Augusta National, are still the envy of surrounding clubs.
