Founded in 1914, Southport Golf Club is now in its ninetieth year and is going as strong these days as it did when it first opened. It has a reasonably long course - measuring 6200 yards from the tee on the first hole to the pin on the eighteenth - and, offering a par of 70, your scorecard at the start of your round indicates that you are in for a testing game of golf here.
The brisk prevailing wing that blows in off the sea can wreak havoc with even the truest shot so take it into account before you tee off.
