Gathurst Golf Club was established in 1913 as a nine-hole course situated in the south of the village. However, in 1959, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Authority advised the members that the M6 motorway was to be constructed through the middle of the golf course.
Thus, in 1961, a new nine-hole course and clubhouse was constructed to the west of the motorway. The course has been extended in the last few years to a 12-hole layout and, more recently, into a new 18-hole course. It is now one of the great Lancashire venues for a golfing break and visitors are made to feel like long lost friends in the clubhouse. Local accommodation will suit golfers of all pockets and persuasions. GREEN FEE KEY: £1-£15=£ £16-£30 = ££ £31-£50 = £££ £50+ =££££ |
