Formby Golf Club was formed in 1884 by a group of local businessmen. Today, some 120 years on, it is one of the most popular and prestigious clubs in the whole of the country. Located just outside Southport on England’s golf coast, Formby’s course was originally designed by Willie Park, with subsequent revisions made by five-time Open champion and esteemed golf course architect James Braid. A venerable links of the very highest order, the course has been used to stage a number of events down the years, including the 1984 Amateur Championship where future Ryder Cup stars Jose Maria Olazabal and Colin Montgomerie, contested a high-quality final, which was won by the Spaniard.
