Golf in Nevada

Think of Nevada and images of casinos along bright-coloured strips and five-star hotels spring to mind. But what you may not be aware of is that Nevada contains more than 100 golf courses, including 50 within a couple of hours’ drive from the great city of Las Vegas.

In truth, this state is a veritable feast for visiting golfers as the courses are very special to say the least. The fairways are lush and bright green throughout the year and the bunkers are as white as can be. The greens, some of which hug huge rocks and are sometimes almost entirely surrounded by mammoth bunkers, take on a life of their own.

This state, if truth be told, encompasses some of the most visually striking golf courses you’re ever like to clap eyes on. In southern Nevada there are more than 50 courses around the Las Vegas area, ranging from public owned and operated courses to private clubs limited to the rich and famous but with certain tee times for the lucky visitor.

The Reno-Lake Tahoe region offers around 50 courses within an hour of the Reno Tahoe Airport, including Wolf Run Golf Club, the Resort at Squaw Creek and the course at Whitehawk Ranch. The Tahoe area, incidentally, has become just as popular as Las Vegas for tourists.

A visit to Lake Tahoe is also must for any visitor because not only is there an abundance of things to see and do, including the annual Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, there are a dozen championship courses in the area and all are well worth the visit.

Some of the courses that should be on your itinerary when in Nevada include Silverstone Golf Club, the home of the Las Vegas Celebrity Players Tour, Red Rock Country Club, a wondrous Arnold Palmer design and Rhodes Ranch Golf Club, featuring relentless sandy bunkers, sweeping streams and a myriad of reflecting water hazards.

Each course provides for a mesmerizing round of golf and an experience that can only be provided within the confines of this particular American state.
