European Senior Tour to play tournaments across UK
The stars of the European Senior Tour will back on British soil this summer, with five events taking place in the UK over the coming months, giving fans the chance to see some of the greats in action.
First up is the ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship, which this year takes place at Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf & Spa in Colchester, Essex, from June 5-8.
Former club professional Paul Wesselingh successfully defended his title last year, before going on to win the Senior Tour Order of Merit, and the he will be hoping to become the first player to win the trophy three times in a row.
Wales then hosts a senior major for the first time when The Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex take place at renowned Welsh venue, Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, in Bridgend, from July 24-27.
American Mark Wiebe will defend his title against a world class field which is set to include Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer, Tom Watson, Ian Woosnam and the two men who led Europe and the United States in the 2010 Ryder Cup, Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin.
The action then moves to the Home of Golf, when Fairmont St Andrews hosts the SSE Scottish Senior Open, from August 15-17.
Last year it was Spain’s Santiago Luna who captured his maiden title by one stroke from Ireland’s Denis O’Sullivan and former Ryder Cup Captain Sam Torrance, who designed the course.
A week later, the English Senior Open returns to Rockliffe Hall in Darlington, County Durham, from August 22-24, with Denmark’s Steen Tinning the defending champion.
Finally, the Travis Perkins Masters, takes place at Woburn Golf Club, for the 14th consecutive year from August 29-31. Last year Montgomerie claimed the title on his first attempt, finishing six shots clear of the field in front of record crowds.
