Former English Amateur champion James Heath ended a TEN-YEAR winless drought with an emotional victory in the SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge on the Challenge Tour.
The 33-year-old, without a win since the 2006 ECCO Tour Championship, held off New Zealand’s Ryan Fox to win by two shots at Spey Valley in the Scottish Highlands.
“It’s been ten years since I last won so I had wondered if it was ever going to happen,” admitted Heath in the immediate aftermath of his victory. “At the moment, it hasn’t quite sunk in yet but it feels good. It’s been a good few years in the wilderness for me, no question - but I’m still standing.”
Heath has endured a difficult year to date, having lost his mother and, shortly thereafter, becoming a father for the first time.
“It’s been a very tough year so far for my family, so it was nice to give them something to be happy about,” he added. “It goes without saying that this one is for my mum.”
