Eason claims his sixth victory on collegiate circuit

Greg Eason, an England squad member, claimed his sixth collegiate victory for the University of Central Florida when he won the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at Sawgrass County Club in Florida.

The 21 year old from Leicester carded three sub-par rounds, opening with 71 before taking command with a seven-under-par 65 and closing with 69 for an 11-under-par 205. This left him three strokes ahead of runner-up, Sam Love.

This win comes in the wake of his success in the prestigious South Beach International Amateur in December, while Eason had become the first player in his universities history to win an individual NCAA regional title.

He now climbs to fourth place on the World Amateur Golf Ranking, two places behind Yorkshire’s Matthew Fitzpatrick, the US Amateur champion.

His second round 65, which included an eagle and seven birdies, was the lowest round of the tournament and Eason was one of only two golfers in the field to card three sub-par scores. Overall he had two eagles and 16 birdies.
