Silverdale golf club is set in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and was, until its extension to eighteen holes in 2002, a twelve-hole course. It offers fabulous, picturesque views over Morecambe Bay and the Leighton Moss bird sanctuary, all of which are visible from the tree-lined fairways. Myers Dyke also cuts through the fairways in many places, which, as well as being a natural water-hazard that is a danger to any stray shot, is home to several otter families.
The ninth hole is arguably the trickiest on the course. Called 'the Station', it is a large par five, and an accurate, long drive is essential if you are to clear Myers Dyke with your second shot, otherwise laying-up is a better option.
