Golf in Cumbria

Cumbria isn't exactly filled with golf courses, but what it doesn't have in numbers it most certainly makes up for in quality, variety and value for money.

It is refreshing to come across a region where visiting golfers are welcomed with open arms. Too often visitors are made to feel a little unwelcome in certain regions in the United Kingdom, but in Cumbria, visitors are regarded as long lost friends.

Alston Moor, situated in Alston, is a mixture of parkland and fell and is one of the very few courses in the north that does not use temporary greens. Furthermore, rumour has the club only shuts its gates when snow falls.

Another popular, and beautiful, Cumbria course is Kendal, a layout often renowned for the year-round standard of its greens and fairways.
Keswick, situated four miles east of the town on Derwentwater in the heart of the Lake District, is another course that's worthy of your attention. The course is a great test of your skills and basks on the glory of the Lake District, so if your game isn't up to scratch at least you can enjoy the scenery!

Don't miss the chance, however, to play Silloth-on-Solway, Penrith or the delightful James Braid design of Cockermouth.
