Offering stunning views of the Pennines, Lake District and the hills of the Yorkshire Dales in the distance, it is easy to understand why Appleby golf club is such a popular course, with a membership of over 800 and large numbers of non-members flocking to play there on regularly.

It is fabulously maintained and the greens benefit from free drainage offering virtually all year round playability. The one drawback is the lack of hazards on the fairways, as there are no bunkers for a start. It measures just under 6000 yards from tee on the first to pin on the last, but with no par fives and seven of the par fours being over 400 yards, the par 68 is not particularly easily achieved.
