Founded in 1910, tradition remains a consistent part of the Delamere golf course. The original designs by WH Fowler - incidentally, also the designer of the Old Course at Walton heath - have remained untouched, and full advantage has been made of the natural, severely undulating contours of the heathland course, in the midst of the Cheshire countryside.
The opening five holes are notorious for their unforgiving, unapologetic difficulty. The fifth in particular is a true test of nerve, patience, accuracy and concentration. From an uphill tee shot, the approach to the green is left guarded by ponds in front of and to the left of it, resulting in one of the hardest holes to play in the country.
