This facility was enlarged to 18 holes in 1973 and the opening of the course on July 4, 1973 saw a famous challenge match between the then Open champion Lee Trevino and top South African professional Hugh Baiocchi. Trevino won the match with a score of 66 against a 67 by Baiocchi.

With the growth of the many trees on the course and the compact nature of the layout, the course demands straight driving and accurate iron play.

The subsoil is clay which means it is always green and in excellent condition during the summer months and with the addition of both green and fairway drainage is now very playable throughout the winter period.
